As well as having your boiler checked on an annual basis to ensure that it is working efficiently and effectively, there are a number of other things that you can do to help keep your home nice and warm during the colder months of autumn and winter.

Draughts – check for any draughts around your windows and doors and ensure that you have these sealed before the colder weather arrives. This will help prevent draughts from flowing into your home and reducing the effectiveness of your heating system to keep your rooms warm.

Furniture placement – it can be tempting to place your furniture as close to your radiators as possible and in some cases in front of them but this will actually prevent the warm air from circulating around the room and will in fact just warm the back of your sofa. Make sure that you have enough room around your radiators to allow the warm air to rise and move around the room, allowing the room to be heated as an entirety rather than in just small pocketed areas.

Thermostat – your thermostat will allow you to adjust the temperature in your home. It can be tempting to crank it up when you are feeling particularly cold but it may be better to set it at a steady temperature throughout the day to help conserve energy whilst still effectively heating your home for you.
